Why didn't the kids fight back

Some of the reason they didn't fight would be hard for us to understand as americans. The reason some of them didn't fight back was because they had to protect there family, so they could get food and money,or they were harassed by there attackers. They would have also got killed if they did fight back or try to escape. I would have fought because I would try to protect my family and i dont want to kill anyone because i think no one should have to kill somebody because they were told to.
